The range is dominated by single-door bar fridges, top-freezer combis and compact double-doors, most of them using time-proven technology. A conventional compressor, a start relay, a mechanical thermostat, a door seal: that's the heart of a typical KIC.
For owners, that simplicity is a gift. There are no expensive control boards to fail, no exotic sensors to chase, and nearly every common fault is a quick mechanical fix. As an independent repair service, not affiliated with or endorsed by KIC, we'll tell you plainly: these are among the most economical fridges in the country to keep running, provided the small faults are fixed before they cook the compressor.

Common KIC faults, and what they really mean
It clicks every few minutes but won't start
That click is the overload protector tripping because the start relay has failed, the single most common KIC fault we see, especially after power surges and outages. It's a small, inexpensive component we carry on every van. Left unfixed, repeated failed starts overheat the compressor, so don't ignore the clicking.
It runs non-stop, or freezes everything in the fridge section
A worn mechanical thermostat no longer switches the compressor at the right temperatures. Replacement is quick and affordable, and it transforms both food safety and your electricity bill.
Ice keeps building up inside
On these largely manual- and cyclic-defrost machines, persistent icing usually points to a hardened or torn door seal letting in humid air. We replace gaskets on site, see our ice build-up guide for what to check first.
It runs but never gets properly cold
Could be a tired thermostat, a blocked capillary, or a slow refrigerant leak. We never regas blind, we find and repair the leak first, then recharge to spec. More on that on our regassing page.
It's gone completely silent
Check the plug and outlet first, genuinely. After that, it's relay, thermostat or compressor in that order of likelihood and cost. Our diagnosis tells you which before you spend anything on parts.
Parts, pricing and the few things to watch
- Excellent parts availability. Relays, overloads, thermostats and gaskets for popular KIC models are abundant and cheap. Compressors in the common sizes are stocked locally. Almost nothing on a KIC repair waits on a long lead time.
- Genuine vs aftermarket. Many KIC service parts are standard universal components anyway, so quality aftermarket is often the sensible choice, we fit reputable makes and guarantee them in writing.
- The main challenge is age, not complexity. Some units we see are twenty-plus years old. On those, we check the whole system, seal, thermostat, condenser coil condition, so you're not back on the phone next month for the fault we could have caught today.
- Know when to stop. If an elderly KIC needs a compressor and a regas, replacement may beat repair. We do that arithmetic with you honestly, it's why people come back to us.
